StoreTabs

Privacy policy

Last updated: 26 October 2026

StoreTabs is a browser extension that saves the tabs in a window as a session so you can open them again later. This policy explains what happens to your data.

The short version

StoreTabs has no servers. It sends nothing to the developer or to any third party, and contains no tracking, analytics or advertising. Your sessions are stored on your computer. The one exception is the bookmark copy: if bookmark sync is turned on in your browser, your browser vendor (Google, Microsoft or Mozilla) syncs it to your other devices, like any other bookmark. You can turn the bookmark copy off in the extension.

What StoreTabs stores

When you save tabs, StoreTabs stores the address (URL), title and site icon address of each tab, the session name you choose, and when it was saved and changed. Earlier versions of a session are kept so you can restore them.

This information is stored in three places on your device:

  1. The extension's own database (IndexedDB in your browser).
  2. A "StoreTabs" folder in your bookmarks (on by default, can be turned off). If you use your browser's sync, your browser vendor syncs this folder like any other bookmark, under their privacy policy.
  3. A daily backup file in Downloads/StoreTabs (off by default). The last 10 days are kept. In Chrome and Edge you can choose another folder instead. If that folder is synced by a cloud service such as Dropbox, iCloud Drive or OneDrive, that service stores the file under its own privacy policy, as with any other file you put there.

StoreTabs also remembers which saved session a window was opened from, together with the addresses of the tabs in that window, so it can offer to update the session. This is also stored only on your device.

To help you recover after a crash or a window closed by accident, StoreTabs also keeps a running list of the tabs you have open (address, title and site icon address), under “Recently open”. The list is stored only on your device, in a separate database, for 7 days. It is not synced and is not added to your bookmarks.

What StoreTabs does not do

Permissions

StoreTabs asks for permission to read your tabs (to save and close them), manage bookmarks (for the bookmark copy), manage downloads (for the backup file), and show site icons from your browser's cache. Each permission is used only for the purpose described in the Chrome Web Store listing.

Deleting your data

Sessions you move to the trash are deleted permanently after 30 days. Uninstalling the extension deletes its database. The bookmark folder and backup files are deliberately kept so your tabs are not lost; you can delete them yourself like any other bookmark or file.

The Pro waitlist

If you sign up for the Pro waitlist on the website or from the extension, you give us your email address and your answers to the form. The form is hosted by Tally (tally.so, in the EU). We use your email only to tell you when Pro launches, and your answers only to decide what to build. We delete it all on request. The extension itself never sends anything when you click the link; it only opens the form.

Changes

If StoreTabs ever adds features that send data off your device, such as encrypted sync, this policy will be updated before the feature is released, and you will be told in the extension. If ownership of StoreTabs changes, users will be told at least 60 days in advance.
