Session Buddy alternative

StoreTabs and Session Buddy, compared

Both save your tabs into sessions on your computer, without an account, and bring them back with one click. The biggest difference is how many copies of your saved tabs there are, and where they are kept.

Where your saved tabs are kept

Session BuddyStoreTabs
Where saved tabs are kept On your computer, in the browser's internal database. Never on a server. Source In the extension, in a “StoreTabs” folder in your bookmarks and, if you turn it on, in a daily backup file in a folder you choose. If bookmark sync is on in your browser, your browser vendor also stores the bookmark copy, like your other bookmarks.
Automatic backup Since version 4.1. It is kept inside the browser and can be up to 24 hours behind. Source The bookmark copy is updated every time you save. The daily backup file, if you turn it on, is also written only once a day, but outside the browser.
If you uninstall or clear the browser's data The saved tabs can be deleted, and Session Buddy says there is not much an extension can do about it. A backup file you have made brings them back. Source The bookmark folder and backup files stay. Install StoreTabs again and it brings your sessions back from the bookmark folder.
Backup file You make it yourself from the settings. Session Buddy recommends doing it regularly. Source Written once a day, if you turn it on.
Sync between computers Not yet. A cloud service with sync is being developed. Source Free, through your browser's own bookmark sync, between computers with the same browser (Chrome, Edge or Brave).
